itouch plus intelligent TENS machine
The itouch plus intelligent TENS machine represents a new and more comfortable way of delivering a drug-free alternative to pain relief. TENS machines are useful for controlled pain management and relief for conditions including arthritis, back pain, and even travel sickness. TENS machines work by stimulating your body's natural defences against pain, via electrode pads. These pads are usually placed near the source of the pain with a very small electric current passed via them through the skin.
The itouch plus intelligent TENS machine includes the pain relief unit, a pack of four 50x50mm self-adhesive electrode pads, a lead wire for both channels, and a handy storage pouch and a belt clip. The unit has a backlit LCD display, and a sculptured keypad to make it easy for those with limited mobility in their hands to use. The TENS machine comes with two AA 1.5v (Type LR6) batteries and an instruction manual. There is also a usage diary, alarm and 24-hour clock.
The itouch plus has eight pre-set programmes, each with its own combination of frequency and pulse width settings. These provide different sensations, and relieve pain in different ways. You can also set your own customised programmes once you're more familiar with the device, and save these to the device's memory.
This unit also features a One Touch Memory Start - press one button and the itouch remembers and returns to the last settings, gently moving up to around 75% of the last intensity level used. Or use the Comfort Strength control which monitors skin and electrode pad resistance and adjusts the output, delivering a soft and comfortable sensation.
Frequency is measured in Hz, or pulses per second. A frequency of 110 Hz is good at blocking pain signals from reaching the brain, while a low frequency of 4 or 10 Hz allows for the release of endorphins. The pulse width (measured in millionths of a second) alters the feeling through the pads.

TENS machines can be used to treat conditions including arthritis, back pain, incontinence, lumbago, menstrual pain, multiple sclerosis pain, and nausea. Use TENS also for phantom-limb pain, post-shingles pain, sciatica, and pain caused by sports injuries, plus for many other conditions. They can even reduce stress, insomnia and travel sickness. Please note, it is important that you find out from your GP what is causing your pain before using the TENS machine. Additionally, you should not use it: if you have a heart pacemaker or have a heart rhythm problem; if you have (or have had) epilepsy; for the first three months of pregnancy; if you have acute, feverish or infectious diseases.
